Ode to friendship

A friend's affirmation
is a drop of honey,
a cup of cold water
after a long march in a desert.
It is spring rain,
breeze from the ocean,
a fountain emerging amid cracking rocks.

Fear not, trust!
True friendship will endure
through raging storms, silent vacuums,
changes of seasons, and tectonic cycles.

Because it is love,
not built on eloquent words,
not tainted by hormones,
but based on linked hearts,
which cannot be broken apart
by time zones, custom officials,
or the acidic weathering of time.

Snow may cover but cannot kill,
when the root runs deep.
Spring comes, the field blooms again.
Dust may smirch but cannot alter
the value of pure gold.
One wipe and it shines again.
